RAT is a black & white picture book. The images within it are meant to suggest or give the impression of a layered narrative. Loosely tied together from beginning to end, these series of images are constructed to resonate in a way that goes beyond the linear connections of straight story illustration. RAT is a visual experience that creates its own internal logic as it unfolds. Each page of images and ideas aims to build upon the ones that came before it to make a collective impact on the reader. Like RAT's sister picture book "Who Shot Painpang?"; Rat is an art book bordering on linear storytelling, and it is an experimental narrative bordering on sequential art forms. But RAT is first and foremost a page-by-page collage of words and pictures meant to encapsulate and expand upon the ideas, images and storylines presented in the three act play, D/R PAINPANG (1926-1966): A Tragedy of Small and Great Importance.
